It is widely
agreed by various church denominations that stewardship is a biblical
imperative for all Christians. Herb Miller wrote a foreword for
a book on stewardship that said, "The word steward appears
in the Bible twenty-seven times. Jesus said, 'From everyone to
whom much has been given, much will be required'. (Luke 12:48)
Church leaders also agree that stewardship is a pragmatic necessity.
How else can congregations accomplish their mission of loving
God, loving people, and reaching out?" Stewardship is not
just the giving of money to support the church in its missions.
It is just one small part of the overall stewardship effort.
Stewardship
is more than money. It is our response to the creating, redeeming,
and sanctifying love of God. It is the way of life that includes
how we manage our way of life in possessions and actions. It is
what we do after we say, "I believe". It is caring for
all that God has blessed and entrusted us with on this earth.
It is the fruit of saving faith. It is the church in mission.
It is how we use the resources that God provides for us daily
for the purpose to which the Lord has called us. How will we all
be good stewards?
