Statement of Purpose and Policy
approved by the Reformation Church Council April 14, 1969

Reformation Lutheran Church is a group of people who believe that Jesus Christ is God's word come to life. It's purpose is to serve as a means by which God can bring His Kingdom to Milford. Reformation Lutheran Church will fulfill this purpose through 2 ministries. The first ministry will be directed toward serving the needs of it's own members and preparing them for the evange-lism and stewardship that God requires if His Kingdom is to become a reality. This ministry will consist of: providing it's members with a place to worship God; instructing them and their children in His ways, creating an atmosphere in which they can continuously renew and strengthen their faith; and by allowing them to enjoy Christian fellowship.

Spiritual GiftsThe second ministry will be directed toward serving the needs of others. This means a direct ministry to our immediate community and an indirect ministry, through our benevolence program, to the rest of the world. Since God's Kingdom can not come into being unless the followers of Jesus Christ follow his teachings in their daily life and serve as living examples of Christianity, the responsibility of the Church extends beyond it's own walls. The church must be constantly examining it's community to see where it's members can serve God; by reducing the suffering of their fellow man; by speaking out and acting against economic or social injustices; by encouraging it's members to participate in community projects and community politics.

To carry out the ministries of Reformation Lutheran Church requires commitment of Jesus Christ by each and every member of the congregation. This can be in the form of time, talent or treasure. If a person cannot make such a commitment, they are dodging their responsibilities and are not really a member of the Church.
